2023 Hunting Season

Time is rollin’ by and 2024 is right around the corner. To me each season seems to get better as the years go by. Maybe it is because as one gets older you appreciate certain things more that you once took for granted in the earlier years. That’s what many of the old timers say! Once again we had a full schedule filled with awesome clients, a number of new faces and about 40% were return clientele. We also had an amazing crew that all worked together well with the common goal to make each and every clients hunting experience as enjoyable as they possibly could. And to top it all off, the weather was amazing with mild temperatures on the majority of our hunts.

As usual we started with our spring spot and stalk black bear hunts that commence in the beginning of May and went until the first week of June. Most of the bear hunters had an opportunity to take a bear but unfortunately we had a few more misses than we usually do as well as a few bears that were not recovered. On the bright side we had quite a few hunters that took their first bear ever. This is a great hunt to do in the spring time when there is very few other hunting opportunities to be had.

Summer marks the time when we start to get ready for our sheep season in the mountains. There is a lot of preparation that goes into this hunt. Food and supplies for this hunt have to be all packed in by horses as there is no motorized vehicle access in our area. Camps have to be set up and trails cleared. Due to high winds and heavy wet snows in the late spring the trails were a disaster, the worst we have seen in the 10 years we have been doing these sheep hunts. We took five sheep hunters this year and three hunters were successful in taking a ram. This hunt is not for the faint of heart, a true test of ones mental and physical abilities!

Seven bowhunters joined us for an archery mule deer hunt, a few in September and another group in mid October. They harvested four bucks with the best one taping out at 185”.

The rifle season started October 25th and we had four weeks of clients booked. All seven of our mule deer hunters took a buck and six out of seven whitetail hunters were successful. This was our first year offering a Shiras moose hunt and the hunter connected on a nice 42” bull on the second day of his hunt.

I want to thank all the clients and crew that joined us this year making it the best season yet!
